While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future away from worry.”

The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The swine, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
