The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Song

This latest animated series, the newest animated adventure by the beloved role-playing group, revealed an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite group of outcasts, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at multiple agonizing backstories for characters including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

All in all, the opening looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the music selection.

The intro uses "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar composition created by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the official score of the same name, the second one put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great nostalgic choice, and I believe that devotees of the second campaign will appreciate its presence.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the hype and excitement that was part of the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when co-founder the performer wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you start an installment of adventurous fun.

The show's intro with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, Critical Role has already said that the series will have a few surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening appears as among these.

This animated adventure will be released on the streaming service from November 19. For those eager before that, or want a head start to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
