Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
