Security breach at learning center
Schools in the northern part of Nigeria have repeatedly come under attack for militant organizations

Gun-wielding individuals have killed a teacher and seized a minimum of 25 learners in an assault against a girls' secondary school in Nigeria's northwestern region, police reports indicate.

The gang of attackers stormed the comprehensive secondary school for girls in Kebbi State's Maga area at approximately 04:00 local time on the start of the week, officials stated.

The assailants "confronted officers on duty in a firefight" before breaching the school's outer barrier and seizing the students from their living quarters, authorities disclosed.

One member of staff was fatally shot while defending the students. An additional employee received firearm injuries and is now receiving treatment.

Observers recounted a large group of attackers, identified in the area as outlaw groups, who appeared discharging weapons intermittently to generate terror.

Community members informed journalists that the gunmen subsequently marched a number of girls into nearby bushland.

The authorities announced they had sent "supplementary tactical squads, in coordination with armed forces and community security teams" to the area.

A systematic finding and recovery effort is presently taking place in adjacent wooded areas and suspected escape routes.

In the last several years, learning centers in northern Nigerian regions have become frequent targets for armed groups, who frequently execute kidnappings to request monetary settlements or secure advantages in discussions with officials.

The assault in Kebbi State highlights the persistent security crisis afflicting the area, resulting in households in Maga in a state of fearful exhaustion as they anticipate and pray for their daughters' safe return.

Protection challenge in Nigeria's northern territories has intensified significantly in the past few months, with learning centers bearing the brunt of the unrest.
