Around fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then located many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism rendered him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
